Google Andromeda: All that you need to know.

Google is planning to do something which maybe well termed as a radical move. At a time when Android rules the roost and runs on majority of the smartphones out there, Google may be planning to move away from it. Yes, you heard it right, Google may be planning to replace Android with Andromeda, its upcoming operating system for all devices.

With Andromeda, Google is planning to combine Android and Chrome OS and brings one unified OS for all sort of devices; be it smartphones, tablets, Laptops and others. Here are some interesting things that you may like to know about Andromeda.

Andromeda Features & other interesting points:

  • Andromeda may be seen as Google’s take on Microsoft’s own unified “one Windows 10 for all devices strategy”. Google hardly has any real presence when it comes to PC and it wants to address that. Also with Windows 10, Microsoft and vendors are eating into Tablet share of iOS and Android, so Google wants to change that too
  • Andromeda will bring one common core for all the devices but depending upon the form-factors, many features may or may not be present one one or the other
  • Android Nougat already brings much improved multitasking, but with Andromeda it may become even more efficient, especially for Tablets / Laptops form-factors.
  • Google Allo, the messenger app is rumored to be deeply integrated into Andromeda on the lines of iMessage to iOS.
  • Andromeda will bring much deeper cloud integration than the Android now. Even after it being more cloud-based, hardware & software prototypes run very well offline as per the rumors.
  • Andromeda may not be backwards compatible with many of the old devices

Andromeda launch date:

  • Andromeda launch may be far away and products may not even start appearing one year from now. But Google may give a glimpse into the future of Android and Chrome on October 4th.
