India Government has reportedly decided to develop a new Operating System named “BOSS” or “Bharat Operating System Solutions” in wake of recent hacking attacks and vulnerabilities reported in existing operating systems. The BOSS is being developed by C-DAC (Centre for Development of Advanced Computing) and will be unveiled and discussed in an internal meeting in union home ministry in this week.
Reports claim that it is very safe and secure OS and has proved itself in various trials conducted during last three months. This system has been tested by various government departments including Army. India has been laggard in developing secure systems to safeguard its internal information from prying eyes, unlike China that has taken major steps after recent “Snowden leaks” revealing American spying agencies trying to sneak info.
BOOS is a Linux based OS and has been developed with the help of Gujarat Technical University, DRDO and private computer geeks has more or less all the features and ease of Microsoft Windows. The OS is expected to be handed over to department of electronics and information technology (DEITY) to further smooth rough edges and ready it for the use of government ministries. Later, the government can collaborate with indigenous industry giants to develop it further and create an open source OS along with other hardware and network systems.
