Xiaomi has finally launched its big screen smartphone called Mi Max 2 in India. This is the worthy successor of the company’s big screen smartphone in the mid-range segment, after Mi Max.
The Mi Max 2 retains some of the design lines from the predecessor like the 6.44-inch Full-HD IPS display (1920 x1080 pixels) wrapped in all metal unibody design with unknown glass protection on top.
What most people will like about the device is the specs upgrade and humongous battery. The Max 2 is powered by the Snapdragon 625 processor (14nm), 4GB RAM, 64GB of internal storage and a massive 5,300mAh battery.
Other features include Hybrid dual SIM slot, expandable storage via microSD, fingerprint scanner, IR blaster, USB Type-C port and stereo speakers.
In terms of connectivity, you get 4G with VoLTE, dual band (AC) Wi-Fi , Bluetooth 4.2, NFC and GPS. The smartphone weighs 211 grams, but the thickness has been reduced to 7.6mm which makes it quite slim and easier to hold in hand irrespective of the huge 6.44″ display.
Xiaomi has not been doing so well when it comes to smartphone camera technology in the recent times but still it does its job pretty well. The rear camera on the Mi Max 2 is a 12MP shooter (Sony IMX386 sensor) with f/2.2 aperture. It also features phase detection autofocus (1.25 µm pixel size) and dual LED flash. This time around, you should be able to shoot in 4K, as the Mi Max 2 supports 4K video recording @30fps.
Front camera is 5MP selfie camera with f2.0 aperture.
The Mi Max 2 runs on Android 7.1.1 out of the box with the company’s custom based MIUI 8 skin on top. Interestingly, Mi Max 2 is the first device to support the implementation of split screen multitasking, which is a big feature to arrive in the final update known as MIUI 9.
One downside of the smartphone could be its huge battery, but Xiaomi has stepped up the game and fortunately bundles a Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 charger which is capable of charging the device up to 68% in just one hour.
If you have been a Xiaomi smartphone user, you will be glad to know that the company will be officially launching MIUI 9 on July 26 , 2017.
